That raw, untouched base is the "root" — proof this piece was cut and polished straight from its natural growth position rather than carved from a random chunk. Yaogangxian is one of the most prized fluorite localities on earth, famous for producing exactly this kind of richly saturated, multi-toned purple-to-green banding. Fluorite gets its name from the Latin fluere — "to flow" — for the way early metallurgists used it as a flux. It's also the mineral that gave fluorescence its name: under UV light, this tower ignites into a saturated electric blue-violet glow, its banding rearranging into an entirely different pattern than what you see in daylight.
